Pathfinder is our primary game system. For a group of family men, time is precious and the Pathfinder Adventure Paths are great resources for our overworked DMs.
However, I do like to branch out from time-to-time. When I get a hankering to do something different, my current preference is Basic RolePlaying.
Rifts actually had some pretty cool books. This was not one of them.If an area had an obvious theme, Simbeieda did it to death.
Egypt - Egytian gods Britain - bad Arthur remake Japan - Ninjas and Samurai
I did like most of the Coalition books as well as Mexico and Atlantis. A good rule of thumb is that the further away from the USA you got, the worse (and in many cases rascist) the books got.
One of the big problems with Rifts is there is just too much of everything. After reading the statblock for the 67th different (yet, virtually indistinguishable)mech or the 17th incarnation of the humble laser pistol, your eyes start to glaze over.
Some of the dimensional sourcebooks, like Phase World and Wormwood, are pretty interesting though. They don't feel like more the same thing over and over again.
Wormwood. Interesting. I didn't really care for that book at all. Its been ages since I've read it so I don't really recall why I didn't like it. Maybe the world was just too alien.
