Warlocks in Pathfinder... Never tell me the odds.

Spellcasters are tons of fun in Pathfinder, whether they are arcane, divine, bard, sorcerer, cleric, wizard... whatever. They are all really fun to play. What makes me sad is the clear absence of my favorite arcanist in Pathfinder, the warlock.

For obvious reasons, there is no 3.5 version of the warlock in Pathfinder. The warlock class came out of a 3.5 splat book that does not fall under the umbrella of the OGL, so sadly there is no warlock in Pathfinder. If you want to play a warlock, you need to ask your DM and trust in the backward compatibility of the Pathfinder system.

Why is it that I feel dirty when I play something backward compatible? Why is it that I feel some false sense of 'correctness' when I only use official Pathfinder materials? I don't know... I just do. For this bizarre reason, I find it tough to feel legit playing one of my favorite classes while others use traditional classes and feats.

What are the odds that Pathfinder will ever get a hold of the 3.5 licensing that they need to canonize the warlock?

It'll never happen. First off, WotC won't give up anything they don't have to. Secondly, Pathfinder sort of has the warlock covered anyway with the sorcerer bloodline abilities. I agree, it's not as cool as the original warlock, but I think the Pathfinder designers redesigned the sorcerer class with the warlock in mind.

Warlocks have lots of cool powers and are pretty sweet until about level 10. By then casters are tossing around level 5 spells and melee are about to get their third attack. A standard action that does 5D6 just can't keep up, touch attack or no.

Adamant Entertainment did a version of the Warlock for PF. You can find the vitals here: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-party-classes/adamant-entertainment/warlock.

Warlocks are not powerful damage per second types of characters. The appeal of this class (for me) is the infinite abilities. Seeing in the dark (magical or not), constantly flying, being invisible all the time, being a master of UMD, and the thematic connection to the dark denizens of the abyss or hell is what makes the warlock so cool.
If I was all about how much damage I do, I would play a paladin all the time. Boring!

why not play an infernal sorcerer? After a few levels you can do all of the same stuff and a whole lot more?

I have a lot of love for the Binder, but again I don't see a direct Paizo conversion. Pours out a shot of rum for the alternate spellcasting systems from 3.5.
